Multimedia Editing (20IMC16H) Year 3 – Semester 1

ree

The assignment was a group project to edit the media productions into a collated TV ad, using learned tools on Avid Media Composer. I have learned through this assignment how to work collectively with my team and how to present my vision into visuals.

I was the group leader at this assignment, we all shared at every step of making the Ad. This assignment was a group project to edit the media productions into a collected TV ad, using learned tools on Avid Media Composer. I have learned through this assignment how to work collectively with my team and how to present my vision into visuals, also personally I find it a bit hard to get around initially, but it is a great one, nevertheless. It has a free, basic package alongside paid, premium packages. So, I can conclude that it is exceptional software that comes to the level of Adobe Premier Pro. I have learned the following about this new editing software,

Pros

1. It’s a super mature product. Avid knows exactly what they are doing.

2. Amazing support- Both hardware and software

3. A wide range of products that interface with Avid

4. Super penetration in the market. Almost everybody in the business has had some time on Media Composer.

5. Easy learning curve to get started.

Cons and challenges

1. Of course, price. All the good stuff comes at a cost.

2. Some workflows are geared specifically to broadcast and film. Not really good for web, social media, etc

Also, the challenges of this program were revolving around getting used to it and understand it, maybe we needed more time to get used to it, what was implemented through the weekly assignments that helped a lot. However, Avid lives with ISIS server Systems (which are VERY expensive but so efficient). Editing software programs are no longer making money. I really hope Avid won't die, it is still the most used editing software in professional film making, and the more efficient!
